CompliLearn Why Staff Need to Enrol in Awards

Assigning training is a request for staff to complete specific training.  You have the option to set a date by which assigned training is to be completed.  This date is a trigger for a range of automatic notifications.

Enrolling in training is accepting that request.

An Award is a container for courses that have been grouped together. Should a person begin these courses without notifying the system i.e. enrolling in the Award, their progress towards completing the Award is not tracked.

A Learner only receives credit for Awards they are enrolled in. Courses can be used in multiple Awards, so they do not receive credit for an Award simply because they've completed everything in it. Because Awards are a container for courses, and courses can belong to multiple Awards, the system must be directly instructed to recognise that staff are entitled to an Award.

For example:

  • “Group A Award” contains courses ABC and DEF
  • “Group B Award” contains courses ABC, DEF and GHI
  • If staff receive credit for an Award simply because they completed all the courses in it (i.e. without having to enrol), you’d have Group B asking why they’re marked as completing the Group A Award.

If staff have completed all the courses in an Award, but the Award is showing as ‘assigned’ it is because they have not enrolled in the Award.  It is not uncommon for Staff to miss that they need to enrol in an Award. To minimise this issue, we recommend including instructions in all Award descriptions, such as: To begin, click ‘Enrol’ on the left-hand side, then choose a course.

Instructions for bulk enrolling staff (i.e. accepting the training on their behalf) are available in the CompliLearn Enrolling in an Award guide. Staff can be directly enrolled or enrolled at a later date.
