Completion (progression) rules can be added to courses with multiple learning items and/or modules.

The completion rules are in the Course/Edit mode, on the Course/Structure screen.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Click on the Module name
  2. In the right-hand panel, click the three-dot menu option
  3. Select "Completion Rules" (Image 1)

The completion rule options (Image 2) are:

  1. Require learners to complete learning items in the order listed
    • If ticked, learners cannot progress to the second learning item in the module until they complete the first; to the third until they complete the second; and so on.
    • This is useful if your courses contains a number of readings, videos or weblinks where your staff may miss the "Mark as Complete" button.
  2. Before a user can start this module there is prerequisite material that must be completed
    • This option allows you determine what (if any) modules must be completed before the current one
    • For example: you may wish require users to complete a module with a video before one with readings and a quiz.
  3. Suggested completion
    • There are three options for completion rules on a course
    • Specific date: use only if the course is a one-off assignment to staff, otherwise the date will become irrelevant
    • Completion rule: the due date is based on a nominated time length from either enrolment (in this module) or parent enrolment (in this course)
    • None: this is the default option.
    • Suggested completion dates or rules can also be set on each learning item.
    • Adding specific completion rules to individual modules or learning items allows you to create a longer or more complex course and encourage staff to complete it gradually.
